Now, kids are grown and I can sit back listening to Unlimited Love over and over. I was a teen for their first five-six albums, then got busy with work and family for Californication through The Getaway. Also, it was the first time I saw/heard them (in a skateboarding movie starring Thanos called Thrashin’ - YouTube that shit). Blackeyed Blonde is my absolute favourite song of theirs. That’s why, to me, Mothers Milk is a much better and more important album than By The Way. You were likely between 13-20 years old when your favourite album came out. Most peoples favourite album is from when they were younger. Listening together with close friends, or your first love, will make you hear and feel the music differently. Listening as a youngster/teen, in your formative years, will make the music have a much deeper impact on you, than your “taste” in my opinion. Taste in music is subjective, but I feel “the best” album/song is about much more than taste.įor a long term band like the Chili Peppers, the best album/song is mostly about HOW you listened to the album.
