![]() ![]() Represents the interests of the department in inter-and intra-institutional research projects provides expertise for research collaborations.Partner with principal investigator, is an expert in the area of research specialization.Prepares grant proposals including scientific writing and authors manuscripts for publication and books for publication prepares presentations for both expert and lay audiences.Maintain accountability for management and financial aspects of all discovery and preclinical development.Participate in contract negotiations and intellectual property determinations.Independently and as part of a team, develops and implements research programs, including project planning.Communicates the feasibility of study involvement and or participation with the PI.Serves as departmental resource for scientific initiatives and major research projects and identifies funding opportunities.Ensures compliance with all federal and local agencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board. Participates in national meetings and conferences, identifies potential collaborators and research sponsors, and maintains relationships with colleagues and National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies. The Senior Advisor participates in the research and academic activities of the department, strategic planning, philanthropic development to support research efforts, senior administrative leadership recruitment, and have joint final oversight of proposals with the director. The other day, I was at the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market picking fresh fruits and vegetables. As the people around me will attest, I was falling fast before this procedure. The team at Cedars-Sinai used two MitraClips to reduce the mitral regurgitation from severe to mild.įor me, I believe the MitraClip should be called the “MiracleClip”. I left the hospital about 24 hours later. According to the FDA protocol, I was admitted the day of the procedure. ![]() ![]() It was easier than having the TEE performed. At the time, I had no idea what the MitraClip was. Like many other high-risk patients, I was released from the hospital and went home under the care of my local cardiologist. I was rushed to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage where I was officially diagnosed with mitral regurgitation and atrial fibrillation.Īs for surgically treating the mitral valve, my family was told that someone of my age was “high risk” with a potential 40% mortality rate during open heart surgery. In August 2009, I was on a walk while vacationing in Idyllwild, California when I started to experience shortness of breath. ![]()
